Joerg Heimburg obtained a BSc and MSc degree at the University of Leoben (field: Mining Engineering) and worked on several projects as a student researcher with the Chair of Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics. He was responsible for research activities within the ANTAG and SARMa project - both related to Mineral Policy.

Joerg Heimburg was also involved in the projects "Evaluation of the value of imports of mineral resources by EU-27 countries" for the Austrian Ministry of Economics and "Evaluation of aggregate prices in several European countries" for the Czech Geological Survey.
